The Costa Cálida or “Warm Coast” is the name given to the region of Murcia’s coast. Although to northern europeans in summer warm may appear an understatement. Whilst hot in the summer winter days can still be warm. Summers are dry. Most of the low annual rainfall falls in the period October through to April. For those wanting a holiday home they can enjoy throughout the year, the Costa Calida would be a good choice.
The coastline is the approximately 250 km, all of which is in the Mediterranean.
At the northern end of the coast can be found the Mar Menor, Europe’s largest salt lake. A perfect location for water sports. Its water temperature is always higher than the Mediterranean.
Murcia has a long history of human settlement and the coast and countryside is scattered with archaeological evidence. Cartagena a large town on the coast has a well preserved roman amphitheatre among other historically important sites. It is also a modern shipyard and cruise destination. Well worth a visit.
The region offers home buyers plenty of choice. There are golf resorts, including the famous La Manga resort, as well as coastal towns of varying settings size and character. Property prices are amongst the lowest of the popular coastal regions which reflects the relatively recent focus on holiday homes and the lower land prices. However, as demand has been increasing, prices are rising and are expected to accelerate as the market recovers from the pandemic.
